Hi Mr. Barkley,
First I'd like to thank you for these videos; they really help me in my growth as an instructional coach.

I would like to talk to you about a situation I am encountering at work.
I work with the KG2 teaching team(8 teachers that are all very different and teach very differently. Currently, they are not going through the Writer's Workshop bends as quickly as the school would like them to (2-3 lessons a week). Now, as a coach, I meet with the team once a week to touch base on where they are in their classroom literacy, what they need, or provide professional learning.
They have been very reticent in going forward with the writer's workshop bends. I have offered to model lessons (and have modeled for a couple of them), to co-teach, to help them plan, and I have informed the PYP coordinator. Basically, I have done everything besides going to Admin. I have worked really hard creating relationships with these women and don't want to jeopardize it by "going to admin".

Now, everytime I broach the topic of writer's workshop, I get responses such as "the students can't do it! They can't even sound out their letters correctly!!! They need more language!! We can't make them run before they walk!!! And we simply don't have time!!!" Or some will say "I teach writing, but I don't use the writer's workshop book, I don't need to", etc.

They have been told to follow the writer's workshop book to the T (we started the program last year). But they just don't seem to care and don't want to progress as the school would like them to.

At this point, I feel guilty that KG2 is falling very behind. And as literacy coach, I feel like I am just not reaching them the way I need to.

1 to 2 teachers do it on a more regular basis (thankfully) so there is some buy-in from them. I focus on those teachers as much as I can, and hope the ripple effect happens soon!!

Any advice would be very appreciated.

P.S. We had the pleasure of meeting last Spring at the NESA conference. My colleague Sanja could not lead her Coaching workshop that you attended and I ended up filling in for her.

Hello Mr. Barkley and thank you for a very engaging video on how to address the gripes about the work. It was very refreshing to receive ideas about to stay calm and still get the work done in spite of. :-) I will definitely be utilizing this technique in my next session with the team.
